The Peasant Farmers Association of Ghana (PFAG) has engaged over 200 smallholder farmers at Asuboni Rails to discuss challenges affecting their farming activities and explore solutions to improve their livelihoods.

The engagement was led by Mr Bismark Owusu Nortey, Executive Director of PFAG, alongside Mr Sampson Appiah, former PFAG focal person for Kwahu West.

Mr Nortey educated the farmers on PFAG’s mandate, activities and commitment to advocating for smallholder farmers across Ghana, encouraging them to share their concerns and participate actively in discussions.

Farmers Highlight Key Challenges

The farmers raised concerns about limited market access, farm theft, poor road networks and challenges associated with ginger production and marketing. They called for improved market linkages, better rural roads and targeted support to boost productivity and income.

Discussion on the Feed Ghana Programme

Mr Nortey also engaged the farmers on the government’s Feed Ghana Programme, assessing their awareness of its objectives and expected benefits. The discussion provided an opportunity to promote participation in agricultural initiatives aimed at strengthening food production and food security.

The engagement forms part of PFAG’s commitment to amplifying farmers’ voices and advocating for practical solutions through collaboration with government, local authorities and other agricultural stakeholders.
