With support from the 11th Hour Project, PFAG implemented this initiative to promote the adoption of agroecological practices among smallholder farmers, particularly women and youth, across different ecological zones in Ghana. The project focused on building farmers’ knowledge and skills in sustainable agricultural practices while strengthening stakeholder collaboration and advocacy for agroecology. Through training, dialogue, and movement-building activities, the initiative contributed to increased awareness, learning, and local participation in agroecology, helping to advance sustainable food systems and environmental resilience in Ghana.

The project aimed to increase the participation and adoption of agroecology among farmers across the project regions. It also focused on ensuring a formidable Agroecology movement at the local levels to promote learning, awareness and advocacy on agroecology. The main activities carried out include:

The project promotes the adoption of agroecological practices among smallholder farmers, particularly women and youth, to support sustainable agriculture, environmental conservation, and resilient food systems.
The project provides practical and theoretical training on agroecological farming practices and creates platforms for farmers and stakeholders to share knowledge, experiences, and best practices.
The Ghana Agroecology Movement (GAEM) is a network of stakeholders working together to promote awareness, learning, advocacy, and the adoption of agroecological practices across the country.
The project has trained over 250 farmers in agroecological practices, with more than 60% of participants being women, and developed strategies to strengthen and expand the Ghana Agroecology Movement at local and regional levels.
The Peasant Farmers Association of Ghana (PFAG), is the apex Farmer-Based Non-Governmental Organization in Ghana with the mandate to advocate for pro poor agriculture and trade policies and other issues that affects the livelihoods of small holder farmers.
