With support from the 11th Hour Project, PFAG implemented this initiative to promote the adoption of agroecological practices among smallholder farmers, particularly women and youth, across different ecological zones in Ghana. The project focused on building farmers’ knowledge and skills in sustainable agricultural practices while strengthening stakeholder collaboration and advocacy for agroecology. Through training, dialogue, and movement-building activities, the initiative contributed to increased awareness, learning, and local participation in agroecology, helping to advance sustainable food systems and environmental resilience in Ghana.

Objective

To contribute to improvement in irrigation development and transportation of food and agro-inputs in Ghana.

Project Summary

The project aimed to increase the participation and adoption of agroecology among farmers across the project regions. It also focused on ensuring a formidable Agroecology movement at the local levels to promote learning, awareness and advocacy on agroecology. The main activities carried out include:

  1. Organize a two-day theoretical and practical training for fifty (50) farmers each in five regions on agroecology practices
  2. Organize one (1) regional dialogue in each of the eight (8) project regions with agroecology practitioners to strategize and promote the Ghana Agroecology Movement (GAEM)

Major outcomes

Key outcomes include

  1. About 250 farmers, with at least 60% being women farmers, trained on agroecological practices
  2. Developed strategies for the promotion of the GAEM at the local and decentralized levels
