With support from the Business Advocacy Fund (BUSAC), PFAG implemented this initiative to promote peaceful coexistence between crop farmers and cattle farmers through the development of a policy and legal framework for sustainable pastoral development in Ghana. The project focused on stakeholder engagement, policy advocacy, and the development of recommendations to guide the formulation of a cattle ranching law. As a key achievement, PFAG facilitated the development of the Ghana Pastoral Policy Document and Strategies, providing a foundation for the drafting of a national cattle ranching law to support effective livestock management, reduce farmer-herder conflicts, and enhance agricultural productivity.

Objective

To develop a proposal for the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) for the drafting of the cattle ranching law has been achieved. In that regard, the Ghana Pastoral Policy Document and Strategies which will form the basis of the cattle ranching law has been developed and submitted to the sector minister for consideration. The next action is for the ministry to expedite action and begin the drafting process as discussed during several engagements.

Major Achievements

A comprehensive Cattle Ranching Policy was successfully drafted and formally submitted to the Minister of Food and Agriculture for consideration, marking a significant step toward addressing farmer–herder conflicts and promoting peaceful co-existence.
