Promoting food security and agricultural governance in Ghana

With support from OXFAM under the Just Economy Programme, PFAG implemented this project to strengthen food security and improve agricultural governance in Ghana. The initiative focused on enhancing farmer participation in policy processes, assessing the implementation of key agricultural programmes, and advocating for increased investments that benefit smallholder farmers. Through policy research, stakeholder engagement, budget advocacy, and monitoring of government interventions, the project contributed to improving accountability, strengthening agricultural policy implementation, and ensuring that the needs of farmers are reflected in national development priorities.
To contribute to improvement in irrigation development and transportation of food and agro-inputs in Ghana.

This project aims to strengthen food security and agricultural governance by improving policy implementation, promoting stakeholder engagement, and advocating for investments that support smallholder farmers.
The project assesses key agricultural programmes, engages policymakers, raises awareness among stakeholders, and advocates for reforms that improve agricultural services and opportunities for farmers.
Planting for Food and Jobs Phase Two (PFJ 2.0) is a flagship government agricultural programme designed to improve agricultural productivity, farmer registration, and access to agricultural support services.
The project secured commitments from the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to incorporate PFAG’s recommendations into PFJ 2.0, strengthened stakeholder engagement in the CAADP process, and contributed to reforms that improved farmer registration and programme implementation.
The Peasant Farmers Association of Ghana (PFAG), is the apex Farmer-Based Non-Governmental Organization in Ghana with the mandate to advocate for pro poor agriculture and trade policies and other issues that affects the livelihoods of small holder farmers.
