With support from OXFAM under the Just Economy Programme, PFAG implemented this project to strengthen food security and improve agricultural governance in Ghana. The initiative focused on enhancing farmer participation in policy processes, assessing the implementation of key agricultural programmes, and advocating for increased investments that benefit smallholder farmers. Through policy research, stakeholder engagement, budget advocacy, and monitoring of government interventions, the project contributed to improving accountability, strengthening agricultural policy implementation, and ensuring that the needs of farmers are reflected in national development priorities.

To contribute to improvement in irrigation development and transportation of food and agro-inputs in Ghana.

Project Summary

Under the OXFAM Just Economy Program, PFAG undertook the following activities to alleviate the plight of the small holder farmer. These were

  1. Undertook an assessment of the implementation of the government’s flagship agricultural policy, the Planting for Food and Jobs Phase two (PFJ 2.0) on beneficiary farmers.
  2. Organized stakeholder awareness on the PFJ 2.0.
  3. Presentation of input into the Mid-year budget.
  4. Monitoring of PFJ 2.0 implementation.
  5. Organized consultative workshop on the Comprehensive Africa Agricultural Development program (CAADP) process.
  6. Engagement with the Minister for Food and Agriculture to prioritize investments for small holder farmers

Major outcomes

The major outcomes harvested within the year are as follows

  1. The PFAG secured commitments by Ministry of Food and Agriculture to integrate PFAG’s recommendations on the PFJ 2.0.
  2. The PFAG also secured enhanced commitments by State and Non-State Actors on the CAADP process.
  3. Some key reforms were introduced in the PFJ 2.0 program leading to improved farmer registration.
