Implemented with support from GIZ, the Sustainable Employment through Agribusiness (AgribiZ) Project sought to improve productive employment opportunities within the agribusiness sector, particularly for women and young people. As an implementing partner, PFAG focused on strengthening farmer organizations, enhancing access to finance, and promoting policy advocacy to create a more enabling environment for agribusiness development. Through the establishment of Village Savings and Loans Associations (VSLAs), support for farmer-led financial institutions, and engagement on key agricultural policies, the project contributed to increased financial inclusion, stronger farmer enterprises, and improved opportunities for sustainable livelihoods in northern Ghana.
The objective of the project is to create a productive employment in micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in the agribusiness sector, especially for young people and women, are improved.
The PFAG, is one of the implementing partners of the GIZ’s “Sustainable Employment through Agribusiness” (Agribiz”) program, which is supporting PFAG with advocacy, capacity enhancement programs for members and enhancing access to finance through the establishment of Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs). AgribiZ is an initiative that promotes sustainable employment and income generation in the agribusiness sector by strengthening farmer organizations, improving access to finance, and supporting agribusiness development, particularly for women and young people.
The project supports farmers through capacity-building programmes, advocacy, the establishment of Village Savings and Loans Associations (VSLAs), and the facilitation of farmer-led financial institutions.
The project primarily benefits smallholder farmers, agribusiness entrepreneurs, women, youth, and farmer-based organizations seeking to improve their productivity, financial inclusion, and business opportunities.
The project has improved access to finance for farmers through ten VSLA groups, supported the establishment of the Upper East Farmers’ Cooperative Credit Union, and contributed to policy reforms and infrastructure improvements under key government agricultural programmes.
The Peasant Farmers Association of Ghana (PFAG), is the apex Farmer-Based Non-Governmental Organization in Ghana with the mandate to advocate for pro poor agriculture and trade policies and other issues that affects the livelihoods of small holder farmers.
