PFAG promotes agroecology and sustainable agriculture as key pathways to achieving food security, environmental sustainability, climate resilience, and improved livelihoods for smallholder farmers. Through capacity building, advocacy, research, stakeholder engagement, and the promotion of climate-smart agricultural practices, PFAG supports farmers to adopt sustainable production systems that protect natural resources while enhancing productivity and resilience to climate change.
To strengthen the capacity of smallholder farmers and farmer organizations to adopt agroecological and sustainable agricultural practices, promote climate resilience, restore ecosystems, reduce environmental degradation, and improve food systems through innovation, advocacy, and stakeholder collaboration.
PFAG trained and sensitized over 1,250 farmers on agroecology, circular economy principles, sustainable farming practices, and climate resilience. More than 60% of beneficiaries in some interventions were women farmers. The association strengthened the Ghana Agroecology Movement (GAEM) through regional dialogues and strategy development, built the capacity of farmer leaders on landscape restoration and climate adaptation approaches, and supported the establishment of climate-resilient landscapes. PFAG also strengthened community bushfire management systems, enhanced farmers’ awareness of social protection programmes, promoted sustainable charcoal production as an alternative livelihood, engaged over 280 policymakers and stakeholders on climate and agroecology policies, and established a Multicultural Technology Park to support learning, innovation, and the scaling of sustainable agricultural practices.
PFAG implemented a range of agroecology and sustainable agriculture initiatives with support from development partners to increase farmer participation in agroecological practices, strengthen climate adaptation and mitigation efforts, promote landscape restoration, and advance circular economy principles in agriculture. Activities included farmer training, regional and national dialogues, establishment of technology demonstration platforms, bushfire management, social protection awareness, restoration planning, sustainable livelihood promotion, policy engagement, and stakeholder sensitization on climate-smart agricultural practices.
